50's big reaction to album leakage

Filed in archive Industry on November 15, 2009

The leaking of a brand new, set to be hit album is now almost 100% inevitable. There is literally no way a record label can press so many discs in preperation for a retail release without one sneaky worker managing to slip one away and leak it out to the net, so they have had to come up with ways to prevent damage as much as possible. Usually the only way to do this is to bring the release date forward in order to prevent more people just aquiring the album for free.

50 Cent has done exactly this with his latest album which began to leak late last month, when it's release was set for the 23rd this month. In reaction, the album was released as an iTunes exclusive and managed to knock up a respectable 50k sales within it's first week. Perhaps this is the way to go; react when an album leaks and make it available legally then?
