Digital Music; 2013.

Filed in archive Stats on December 2, 2008

JupiterResearch has been doing some predictions on what the digital music market will be like in the future; and from their results, it's a bit of a mixed bag.

Positively, digital sales are up to a massive 45%, waaay up from the current 18% (it's hard to believe it's still that low; iTunes isn't quite as dominant as people might think in the music world). On the other hand, however, total revenues are set to drop down to around 9.8billion from the current 10.2billion, mainly due to the reduction in physical sales. It's bad news for an industry which has been in a pretty much constant decline from the peak of 1999.

Will these predictions come true? Who knows, but the figures seem plausable to me at least.
