France Stands Up For The People
A French court ruled in favor of personal privacy over record label intrusion. The court said that copyright holders that conduct unrestrained searches on p2p networks engage in illegal data invasion. P2P networks cannot be monitored to secure evidence for copyright infringement lawsuits.
The ruling may lead to lawsuits against the record labels. "We do not know how many families or individuals were monitored before they chose who to prosecute," said Jean-Pierre Quignaux, of the government-supported National Union of Family Associations. "Given the judge's decision, we are considering action against those invading privacy to catch music downloaders."
