Getting started in the digital music world

© John Picken
Since music has gone all digital, there has been a massive increase in the number of "bedroom artists" who make entire tracks and albums with just a laptop, a few computer programs, and a few little bits of other hardware. Unfortunately a laptop and a few programs often is not good enough to allow someone to make music of a high enough quality to actually go towards the charts or the like, so here's a quick guide of what I'd reccomend to get yourself going
Philadelphia apartments put you in an area of upcoming talent, so if you are breaking out of your parents basement, it might be an idea to check them out. After that you need yourself a production suite, so get a nice high end PC or even a Mac, seeing as that's where the music scene hits these days. Then, this is the thing that many seem to miss; some microphones for decent quality recordings, and some hardware like a synth or a keyboard, as it will give you a more "natural" sound you won't get with just programming.
