Cingular announced that the current season of American Idol generated more than 64.5 million text messages, including votes, trivia, sweepstakes entries, text chats, fan club, and vote number reminders. That's a lot of text and a lot of text traffic income for Cingular. Cingular is the largest wireless carrier in the United States with 55 million subscribers.
Cingular also had success with Live Idol Tones that were released a day after the song was performed. The ringtones were among the top sellers sold by Cingular.
