Instruments in the digital age: how relevant are they?
Since the mid 80s, bands have been experimenting with fully digitally created music; removing the old analogue guitars and drums with synthesized items offering precision and consistancy unavailable elsewhere. This certainly contributed heavily to the "80s" sound that we now know, but in all honesty, it has only partially caught on.
The vast majority of artists use some sort of synth in their music, but only the dance and electronica groups have really gone fully digital, with most still relying on the traditional old style of instrument.
It's wierd, because getting into creating digital music is much much cheaper than buying and learning to play an instrument
Even if you get good deals on musical instruments, it can still cost you a lot of money to learn to play something worthwhile with it, whereas you can pickup a cheap second hand copy of FruityLoops and be making music that is listenable in mere hours!
What do you readers think? Do you want more digitaly created music, or do you prefer the traditional sound of real instruments?
