iTunes to bring in variable pricing

Filed in archive Apple on March 27, 2009

Apple has always said that their tracks are 99c, all of them, arguing simplicity was best for the customer; however, they have now changed their tune.

iTunes is set to introduce 3 different pricing tiers; $1.29, 99c, and a new low 69c. All DRM free, of course. One wonders if they are suffering from the impacts of the economic problems the world is experiencing, and are doing this in order to both boost sales of cheap tracks, and make more profit from those that they can easily sell for more?

Only time will tell if it pays off, but it stinks of an Apple without Steve Jobs decision...
