Leaks do not always hit sales hard; a case study.

Metalica, the once notorious digital music haters, recently released their latest album, Death Magnetic, with a new attitude to the subject. They decided they needed to embrace the digital world through broadcasts on youtube, and even passing comments about they aren't upset at the leak of their album.
A leak that did very little damage to retail sales, by the looks of things, seeing as the band have sold over half a million copies of the album within the first week, an impressive feat indeed.
Leaks don't always destroy the sales potential of albums. Fact.

The old saying “If you can not beat them – join them” holds true here. Metallica had to live with it and start thinking how to exploit it in their benefit. Otherwise it will look like truing to bring down a wall by hitting it with your head- hopeless.
