MP3 players to be cut quiet in the EU

Filed in archive MP3 Players on September 29, 2009

Perhaps it's odd for you in the US to think, but over here in the EU we have people who decide things for the entire continent; and one of the very important things they have to deal with is the volume of music that we are pumping into our ears.

Rather than say, allowing us to chose how much we wish to damage our eardrums, hardware manufactures have been told that from 2011, an 80dB limit will be placed on the players. This must be enforced or at least turned on by default; most are expected to make it an easy option to turn off as a lot of users who use earbuds that leak sound (and are of crap quality) will normally use more than 80dB when listening.
