Music fans do not want quality

Posted in People on March 5th, 2009

What?

Have I gone mad?

No. I certainly don't agree with this but apparently a certain professor has come to this conclusion. After a long and probably overfunded survey of blind MP3 testing, he has found that many students at a uni prefer the hiss and crackle of low quality MP3s over the lostless alternatives!

He goes on to compare it to audiophiles who like the "crackles" the imperfect format generates…. can he be serious? I really don't understand, but please, I hope none of you agree with this!

This is ridiculous and scary. Does the music sound freer when it sounds worse?
