P2P: The Next Generation
Filed in archive Technology by Marc on March 15, 2007

Cornell University computer scientist
Paul Francis has developed the Chunkyspread P2P network. Data is transferred not in blocks but in slices, such as every tenth bit of a file. Francis says the protocol outperforms those used by today's P2P software. Carnegie Mellon researcher Hui Zhang founded Rinera Networks, which aims to tame P2P for legitimate stakeholders. P2P data will be identified and metered. ISPs will be able to track, block, and even charge for P2P data running over their networks.
