Qtrax P2P to launch with EMI

Posted in Technology on June 17th, 2006

Brilliant Technologies announced its Qtrax service will offer legal music (1, 2) with P2P software. Qtrax will sell music from EMI and hopes to sign other major labels. Music can be purchased as a single song or monthly subscription.

The Qtrax software uses the gnutella network and includes a media player that will play Qtrax's proprietary MPQ format, as well as WMA and MP3 files. Unauthorized music will be blocked from being downloaded or shared. Qtrax will generate additional income from advertising displayed during free song previews, which will be evenly split with labels.
