RIAA: "Sensitivity" is our Middle Name
Filed in archive Legal , RIAA, IFPI on August 18, 2006
A few days ago we reported "RIAA Goes After Another Dead Person ... And His Children." In a rare moment of munificence, after Larry Scantlebury passed away the recording industry granted the family 60 days to grieve before renewing their attack on the family. But now RIAA's gone plain loopy. They're actually dropping the case. Out of an "abundance of sensitivity." I kid you not.
Here is their statement thanks to Cory Doctorow at Boing Boing.
Our hearts go out to the Scantleberry family for their loss. We had decided to temporarily suspend the productive settlement discussions we were having with the family. Mr. Scantleberry had admitted that the infringer was his stepson, and we were in the process settling with him shortly before his Passing. Out of an abundance of sensitivity, we have elected to drop this particular case.
