SonyBMG Rootkit: Canada Update

Filed in archive Companies , International , Legal by Marc on October 03, 2006

There is progress in the SonyBMG rootkitlinks case in Canada (SonyBMG Rootkit: Canadian Injustice). The Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic intervened with the support of the EFF to improve the Canadian settlement and make it comparable to that in the U.S. In particular, the Canadian court required that SonyBMG provide notice to attorneys and the CIPPIC if it uses DRM again that has not been independently approved to be safe for consumer use.
