US Imperialism to Hit Australia
Filed in archive International on November 4, 2006
Australia has had a relatively reasonable and flexible copyright policy. But a free trade agreement between Australia and the U.S. is changing that. The Agreement requires Australia to change its law to be more like the restrictive DMCA of the U.S.
The EFF tracks the copyright changes in Australia. A February policy report had consumer and technology-friendly recommendations that suggested a balanced and reasonable response to the DMCA. However a fast-tracked Copyright Amendment Bill in the Australia Parliament is ignoring most of those recommendations.
