Yahoo goes after the home

Posted in Companies on January 28th, 2006

Yahoo has been an aggressive player into the digital music market with its low subscription pricing. Yahoo extends this effort with a play in the home with a wireless deal with Linksys, a home networking manufacturer.

Linksys sells the Wireless-G Music Bridge ($99 retail), which receives digital audio from a PC or wireless connection and outputs home audio through analog cables. The device is like an external sound card attached to the wireless home network.

Yahoo developed PC software that plays music from the PC on a remote stereo connected to the Wireless Music Bridge. The Yahoo music software also includes typical media player function to store and manage music and playlists.

Yahoo offer a $20 rebate to Linksys Music Bridge owners if they buy a a one-year subscription to Yahoo Music.
