Yahoo Wins Against Sony BMG in Six Year Old Lawsuit
Filed in archive Companies , Legal , Major Labels on May 4, 2007
BMG and other major labels sued Launch Media in 2001 over the use of custom music streaming. BMG is now part of Sony BMG. Launch Media was bought by Yahoo. BMG claimed that the Launch Media LAUNCHcast service customization, initiated when users rated music, required additional licensing and fees.
The other labels dropped out of the lawsuit when Yahoo bought Launch Media and renegotiated licensing. But BMG hung on. Six years after the suit was filed a jury finally ruled in favor of Yahoo
