Zune Sharing
Filed in archive MP3 Players on September 15, 2006
The previously announced microsoft zune portable media player (Zuney Tunes) will be launched in time for the holiday season. The Zune player features wireless transfer to share songs and playlists and will ship with some preloaded tunes, or I suppose, Zunes. Like Apple's iTunes, Microsoft will provide an online store called Zune Marketplace.
Zune will support Microsoft DRM in WMA (music) and WMV (video) formats, as well as open MP3 files. It is not compatible with iTunes files. Similar to Weed files, shared Zune files can be played three times over three days before it must be purchased. It was not announced whether wireless transfer applies to all files (such as MP3 music) or only secured Microsoft files.
