Microsoft will be releasing its own music store. A Microsoft staffer says it is a "new, holistic approach to music and entertainment." Chris Stephenson, Microsoft GM of marketing for MSN Entertainment Business, calls it an umbrella brand for a family of hardware and software targeting various digital entertainment services". Whatever. At this point it's just hot air.

The Microsoft pitch is that it's MySpace meets iTunes meets Xbox Live. The MP3 player is said to include WiFi, which makes sense. It will integrate some social networking, such as sharing playlists. Ooooooooh. I'm sure Apple is quivering in fear.
