Sony Apologizes, Says PlayStation Network to Return Soon

Sony Chief Executive, Sir Howard Stringer, made a statement that Qriocity Network and PlayStation gaming networking would return online in a matter of days. Sony also apologized for the security breach and has hired security companies to strengthen its position. Sony said that if still did not know for sure how much data had been actually stolen, but asserted that it had taken a number of steps to make sure that it didn't happen again.

Sony fears that following the security failure, it might lose a number of its customers, and so the company has come back with a number of new offers for its members. It is also expected that Sony will do something to make up for the losses suffered by its paid members while the gaming site was offline for 3 weeks.

More Free Games Downloads but Fewer Paid Games

According to a new report, mobile games are gaining on popularity, but the people willing to pay for downloading these games are on a decline.

The December 2010 ComScore report mentioned that only 37 percent of all mobile games were downloaded for an upfront fee, a decline of 17 percentage points from the year before.

According to the same report, there is a 11 percent decrease in the purchase of paid mobile games and a 67 percent increase in the full, free mobile game downloads from 2009 to 2010.

A report by Ayzenberg also points out that iPod Touch users are more actively downloading apps than their mobile phone counterparts. They spend roughly 37.5 percent more time downloading apps monthly.
